About Vivino Wine Style Awards:
Vivino’s 2020 Wine Style Awards feature the best wines in the world and are solely determined by wine drinkers — Vivino’s community of 43 million — not critics. We created these awards in 2014 to celebrate the wine industry and to stand for something bigger than the industry awards that existed at the time and that only represented the opinions of a few. I am so proud of these awards and what they represent — the true democratization of wine.
This year’s awards feature the ten highest rated wines across 183 unique wine styles. There are new and exciting styles that made the list and even new countries represented. You are one of 1,330 wineries from 16 countries that made the cut. For context, there are nearly 300,000 wineries on Vivino! Styles were selected based on their popularity with Vivino users in the 2019 calendar year, showcasing wine trends and interests of wine drinkers from around the globe.
Italian Prosecco
Currently Italy’s most popular sparkling wine, Prosecco is made in the Veneto region in northeast Italy. Predominantly made from the grape called Glera, sometimes with the addition of Pinot Bianco or Pinot Grigio, Prosecco typically tastes fresh with aromas of green apple, pear, and white flowers. Look out for Superiore on the label and for Proseccos from subregions such as Valdobbiadene or Cartizze to try the best that this region has to offer.
