French 75 is a classic cocktail that features sparkling wine. The original recipe includes gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and Champagne, but of course, Mr is always our bubbly of choice. A London Dry Gin is always best for a French 75. Our preferred gin is Monkey 47, which is made in Germany’s Black Forest. The “47” refers to the number of ingredients used, all handpicked botanicals. The result is a beautifully smooth gin that is considered to be one of the best in its category.
What does “French 75” mean? The drink got its name because the combination of gin and Champagne was described as having such a “kick” that it was similar to being hit by the 75mm gun used by the French during the war — an incredibly powerful weapon. That being said, a French 75 is one cocktail that is sure to pack a punch.
Ingredients
1 ounce London dry gin (suggested: Monkey 47 Gin)
½ ounce fresh squeezed lemon juice
½ ounce simple syrup
-
2 ounces of Mr SYLTBAR Prosecco
Directions
Combine gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and ice into a cocktail shaker
Shake until properly chilled
Strain into a glass and top with Mr SYLTBAR
Garnish with a lemon twist
Recipe Note
Proper glassware for a French 75 is traditionally a champagne flute or a coupe. We always serve Mr in a white wine glass because the wide bowl of the glass enhances the flavors and aromas. Our suggested glassware for a French 75 would be a white wine glass, but if you want to stay more traditional, opt for the coupe.
