Kir Royale with Mr SYLTBAR Prosecco

The Kir Royale is a popular French cocktail that combines crème de cassis (a blackcurrant liqueur), traditionally with Champagne. Mr SYLTBAR Premium Prosecco works just as well — if not better! The cocktail is a variation of another popular French drink, the "Kir," which is made with dry white wine instead of bubbly.

The Kir Royale is said to be named after Félix Kir, a Catholic priest who was the mayor of Dijon, France, during and after World War II. The story says that he was a strong supporter of the French Resistance during the German occupation and was known for serving his guests the traditional Kir cocktail, using the locally made white wine along with crème de cassis. It was his way of making a political statement — promoting locally made products — but also a necessity, since red wine was not as prominent in the area at the time.

Over time, the white wine was substituted with Champagne as a way to become more of a luxurious, celebratory cocktail. Although the exact date of the drink’s creation is not known, it’s said to have become popular during the mid-20th century.

The drink is effervescent with just a hint of sweetness and beautiful shade of purplish-pink.
