This classic Spanish tapas dish, known as “melon con jamon serrano,” is a wonderful blend of salty and sweet. It’s a quick and easy snack to make, especially because there is no actual cooking involved. Alternatively, you could also use cantaloupe instead of honeydew.
The flavors of the melon and Serrano ham are a match made in heaven with our light and airy “White Linen” Pinot Grigio. With notes of pear, apricot and almonds and fresh, fruit-forward aromas, we love how the freshness of this white wine balances out the saltiness from the ham.
Ingredients
-
3-4 pounds honeydew melon
-
4 ounces Serrano ham, sliced
-
Freshly ground pepper
-
1 whole grain baguette
-
White Linen Pinot Grigio
Directions
Prepare the Melon: Halve the melon lengthwise and scoop out the seeds. Cut the halves into even slices (about 20 pieces). Use a small kitchen knife to thinly trim the rind from each slice.
Wrap the Melon: Halve each slice of Serrano ham lengthwise. Sprinkle a small amount of rosemary on the ham slices. Place a melon slice on each ham slice and wrap individually.
Serve: Arrange the melon and ham on a platter. Sprinkle with freshly ground pepper.
Recipe Note
Option to serve with sliced whole grain baguette. Use toothpicks to secure the ham if necessary.
